FAQs

What are Group and Centre Based Activities under the NDIS?

Group and Centre Based Activities are NDIS-funded programs that bring participants together in a supportive, structured environment to socialise, learn new skills, and engage with their community. Activities range from arts and crafts, cooking classes, and music therapy to sports, fitness programs, day trips, and life skills workshops. They are delivered at community venues or disability day centres, and are designed to promote inclusion, confidence, and personal growth for NDIS participants of all ages and ability levels.

Who is eligible for Group and Centre Based Activities?

Any NDIS participant with “Assistance with Social and Community Participation” funding — or relevant Core Supports or Capacity Building funding — in their plan may be eligible. Programs are suitable for participants of all ages and disability types. If you’re unsure whether your plan includes this funding, speak with your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager, or contact the Bharosa team and we’ll help you find out.

How is this service funded in my NDIS plan?

Group and Centre Based Activities are primarily funded under the Core Supports budget within the “Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation” category. Depending on your goals, some programs may also draw from your Capacity Building budget. Funding can cover the cost of participation, any personal care or support worker assistance required during sessions, and in some cases, transport to and from the activity. Bharosa’s team can help you understand exactly how to use your plan funding.

What are the benefits of Group and Centre Based Activities?

Group and centre based activities deliver a wide range of benefits, including building social connections and lasting friendships, reducing isolation and loneliness, developing practical life skills and greater independence, improving mental and physical wellbeing through therapeutic and recreational programs, building confidence through shared experiences and achievements, and gaining a genuine sense of community. Regular social participation is consistently linked to improved quality of life and long-term wellbeing for people with disability.

Can I choose which activities I participate in?

Absolutely. At Bharosa, you are in control. We work with you to understand your interests, personal goals, cultural background, and support needs — then help match you with programs that are genuinely meaningful and enjoyable. Our person-centred approach means your preferences always lead the way. There is no one-size-fits-all program at Bharosa; every participant’s experience is shaped around them.

How do you ensure quality and safety?

Bharosa is committed to delivering safe, respectful, and high-quality support. All our support workers undergo thorough background checks, including NDIS Worker Screening Checks, and hold relevant qualifications and training. We follow the NDIS Practice Standards and Code of Conduct, and we regularly review our services to ensure they continue to meet your expectations. You can always speak to us if you have any concerns your feedback is genuinely valued.
