SIL/SDA/MTA/Respite Housing in Queensland and Tasmania - Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live as independently as possible, in a shared home, with housemates, and with trained support workers available around the clock.

SIL housing is not just about having a roof over your head. It covers the daily support provided inside the home: personal care, meal preparation, medication management, household tasks, and skill-building. The NDIS funds the support services, while rent and living expenses are typically covered through the Disability Support Pension (DSP) and Rent Assistance.

Alongside SIL, Bharosa also supports participants through Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Medium Term Accommodation (MTA), and respite (Short Term Accommodation) options across Queensland and Tasmania. Whatever your home and living goals look like, we can help you find the right arrangement.

Bharosa Community Services delivers Supported Independent Living under Registration Group 0138. We meet all NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. Our team complies fully with the latest SIL Practice Standards. We offer transparent claiming processes aligned with current NDIS pricing guidelines.

Skill Building and Independence

Our support workers actively help you build the skills to live more independently over time — from cooking to budgeting to public transport navigation.

Home and Living Options Available Through Bharosa

We understand that every participant has different needs, goals, and circumstances. That’s why Bharosa offers multiple ways to access home and living support across Queensland and Tasmania:

Move Into a Bharosa SIL Home

We have current SIL housing vacancies in Morayfield, Queensland. Our home is fully accessible, well-maintained, and ready for move-in. You'll be joining a supported household with staff you can rely on from day one.

Support in an SDA Property

Already connected with a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider in Brisbane or South East Queensland? Bharosa can deliver your SIL support services in your chosen SDA home. We work alongside leading SDA providers across the Moreton Bay region and Greater Brisbane.

Support in Your Own Home

If you live in a private rental or family home and have SIL funding in your NDIS plan, our support workers can come to you. You don't need to move to access quality SIL support in Brisbane.

Who is Eligible for SIL Funding?

SIL funding is available to NDIS participants who require significant, ongoing support to live safely and work toward greater independence at home. Eligibility is assessed by the NDIS based on your individual needs, goals, and evidence from allied health professionals such as your Occupational Therapist.

You are generally eligible for SIL if you:

  • Need regular daily support at home that cannot reasonably be provided informally
  • Have disability-related support needs that are consistent with the NDIS reasonable and necessary criteria
  • Are under 65 years of age and an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a protected special category visa
  • Live in Australia

The NDIS approves SIL funding based on a Roster of Care (ROC) submitted by your provider, which outlines the support hours, staffing ratios, and care requirements for your living situation.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, our team can help you understand your options and work with your support coordinator to build the case for SIL funding in your plan review.

Why Choose Bharosa for SIL, SDA, MTA and Respite Housing?

Bharosa Community Services is a registered NDIS provider operating across Queensland and Tasmania. Our team lives and works in the communities we serve, which means local knowledge, faster response times, and staff who understand the areas our participants call home. Here’s what sets our home and living supports apart:

Local Teams in Queensland and Tasmania

Our coordinators and support workers are based in the states we operate in. You're not dealing with a national provider who manages your care from interstate.

Registered for SIL Under the New NDIS Requirements

From 1 July 2026, SIL is its own NDIS registration group with dedicated Practice Standards. Bharosa is registered under this new SIL registration group and meets all quality and safeguarding requirements to deliver Supported Independent Living in Queensland.

Genuine 24/7 Support

We don't just say 24/7. Our rosters are built to ensure active overnight coverage and reliable staffing — not just on-call arrangements.

Tailored Support Plans

Every participant gets a care plan built around their goals, not a template. We review and update plans regularly as your needs change.

Transparent and Honest

We'll tell you upfront what we can offer, whether our home is the right fit, and how funding works — so there are no surprises.

Current Vacancies Ready

You don't have to go on a long waiting list. Our Morayfield SIL home has current vacancies available now.

Frequently Asked Questions About SIL Housing in Brisbane

What is SIL housing?

SIL housing refers to shared or individual accommodation where an NDIS participant receives Supported Independent Living support services. The NDIS funds the daily support — personal care, household assistance, 24/7 staffing — while the participant typically covers rent through the Disability Support Pension and Rent Assistance.

How much does SIL housing cost?

The cost depends on your support needs, the number of housemates, and whether active overnight or sleepover support is required. For eligible NDIS participants, SIL support costs are funded through your NDIS plan under Core Supports: Assistance with Daily Life. Your NDIS planner or support coordinator can help clarify what’s funded in your specific plan.

What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) refers to the physical property — the bricks and mortar — designed for people with high support needs. SIL refers to the support services delivered inside that home. Some participants have both SDA and SIL funding; others have SIL only and live in standard rental properties or Bharosa-owned homes.

Who pays for SIL accommodation in Brisbane?

The NDIS pays for the support services (staff, care, supervision). The participant typically pays rent from their Disability Support Pension, with Rent Assistance often available through Centrelink. Bharosa can walk you through exactly what to expect financially before you make any decisions.

Can I choose where I live with SIL?

Yes. You have the right to choose your home and living arrangement. If our Morayfield vacancy isn’t the right fit, we can support you in an SDA property of your choice in Brisbane, or in your own home if you have SIL funding in your plan.

Does Bharosa have current SIL vacancies?

Yes. We currently have SIL housing vacancies in Queensland, and we welcome SDA, MTA, and respite enquiries across Queensland and Tasmania. Contact our team to discuss eligibility, view a property, and understand the move-in process.

How do I apply for SIL funding through the NDIS?

SIL funding is typically recommended through allied health assessments — particularly from your Occupational Therapist — supported by a Roster of Care. Your support coordinator plays a key role in preparing the evidence needed for your NDIS plan review. Bharosa can work with your coordinator to help build this case.

Is Bharosa a registered NDIS provider for SIL?

Yes. Bharosa Community Services is a fully registered NDIS provider in Queensland and Tasmania, registered under the dedicated NDIS SIL registration group and meeting all SIL Practice Standards under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Is SIL now a separate NDIS registration group?

Yes. From 1 July 2026, Supported Independent Living is a mandatory registration requirement and sits in its own NDIS registration group (Registration Group 0138), separate from the older shared-living support category. Providers must be registered specifically for SIL and meet the new SIL module of the NDIS Practice Standards. Bharosa is registered under this new group.

Does Bharosa meet the new mandatory SIL registration requirements?

Yes. Bharosa Community Services is registered under the new NDIS SIL registration group and complies with the SIL-specific Practice Standards introduced on 1 July 2026. This means our Supported Independent Living services are delivered in full compliance with the latest NDIS quality and safeguarding rules.
