Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Whats the difference between Individualised Living Options and Supported Independent Living?
Both Individualised Living Options (ILO) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) aim to provide greater independence for people with disabilities, but they differ in the level and type of support provided.
SIL is generally suited for people who require higher levels of care and typically live in shared accommodation with ongoing support.
ILO is more flexible and often better suited for those who need support on an occasional basis rather than full-time care.
The right choice depends on your individual needs and circumstances. We’re here to help you explore your options and find the best fit for you.
Can ILO Help with Housing Costs?
ILO funding does not cover rent or mortgage payments for NDIS participants. Instead, it focuses on providing the support needed to live independently.
While some participants may move into someone else’s home through a Host arrangement, ILO funding does not pay for rent—it only funds the support that the Host provides.
Is Individualised Living Options (ILO) Right for You?
ILO may be a great fit if:
You’re moving out of home for the first time.
Your current home is unsuitable—whether it’s overcrowded, in need of repairs, unaffordable, or doesn’t meet your needs.
You’re happy with your home but want to explore other living options.
You’re at risk due to your current living situation.
You’re transitioning out of care, child protection, or a custodial setting.
You plan to change your living arrangements in the next few years.
You need support to create a home setup that works for you.
Most people with ILO live with family, friends, or others who have NDIS Plans. However, ILO is not the same as group homes, shared accommodation services, or placements. It also doesn’t cover 1:1 rostered care, which is more commonly funded through Supported Independent Living (SIL).
